Personal branding: why and how?

Your personal branding is the way you are perceived and differentiated from your competitors by your customers. It combines your values, the message you convey as well as your visual identity. As a freelancer, you have every advantage in developing a strong personal branding. Here’s why, and how!

Why?

1. To increase professionalism

A well-put brand image automatically gives an impression of professionalism. It will increase your credibility and your reputation towards your potential customers. Creating a personal branding allows you to showcase your best talents, and that will increase your professionalism.

2. To highlight your talents

You are a designer? Showcase your talent and create an awesome logo or signature. You are a writer? Differentiates yourself with a fantastic cover letter. Whatever your field of activity is, use your talent wisely, your brand is also a way to promote your abilities. One thing for sure, use your brand image to show your strengths, or what differentiate you from your competitors.

3. To stand out

Having a well-established brand will distinguish you from your competitors and will allow you to stand out from the crowd. Do some competitive intelligence and use this information to find what works better and what works not as much. It’s okay to test your market as well. You just need to stand out and be creative!

How?

1. Let your personality show

The important thing is to have a personal brand that showcases your personality. People will want to buy your products and/or services for a number of reasons, but they also want to ‘get to know you’. Letting your personality shine through your brand will allow people to associate more easily with you, and at the same time, make them want to work with you (hopefully!).

2. Develop a graphic universe that stands out

Once you’ve thought about the values you want to show through your brand, it’s time to develop a graphic universe that will be consistent and distinctive. Choose some key elements that you can reuse almost everywhere and all will be part of the same vibe. The important thing is to remain flexible so that you can use your brand in any context, whether it’s printed or on the web. A color palette, a font, a photo filter, a logo or a signature, a group of icons or even patterns and textures are all elements that you can easily use to communicate your brand.

3. Share your brand

You’ve created a brand you are really proud of? You should share it, and make it alive! Showcase it any ways you can, whether it’s on your Momenteo invoices, estimates, customer emails and social medias. Remain consistent with the brand image you’ve created! This will strengthen your brand and allow you to be recognized in all your publications!

Happy billing!
